HCI and Information Seeking

I have recently taken a lecturing position (Assistant Prof. for any US readers) in the Future Interaction Technology Lab at Swansea University.

My research focus is on Human Computer Information Retrieval, although my concern about this term is that information retrieval is too narrow a focus on search. Information Seeking is a more accurate term, and importantly it encompases more exploratory forms of search.

My continuing work has been on the development of an HCI method that is built upon the academic knowledge from the Inforamtion Seeking community. The method allows designers to systematically and rigourously inspect search interfaces for the means in which they support different search tactics. Much of my work has been grounded in the development of mSpace.
