From: "MEYRICK J.A.L." The main changes are as follows: 1. Bursaries assigned to Schools to allow strategic allocation. (Departmental Tutors are recommended to liaise with their Head of School regarding allocation of awards across subject areas.) 2. All Schools have been allocated a number of bursaries automatically, with the remaining bursaries allocated pro-rata in relation to 2008 UK/EU Taught Masters enrolments. 3. The value of the bursaries to rise to £2,700 each towards fees. 4. Applicants for MRes programmes will be eligible to apply for the Bursaries. 5. Bursary recipients should normally hold a minimum of a 2.1 (or equivalent) degree. Where an exception to this is sought, a case will need to be made to the Chair of the Admissions Committee. Criteria for allocation: Applicants from the UK or EU are eligible. In the allocation of awards by Schools, preference should be given to applicants with clear research potential and ambition who might reasonably be expected to proceed to PhD. Application Process: · Candidates applying for a Bursary must complete the standard POSTGRADUATE MASTERS BURSARIES application form /in addition to /the standard postgraduate application form/. /Bursary application forms will be distributed to eligible applicants direct from the Admissions Office. · The *closing date *for completed bursary application forms to be returned to the Admissions Office will be** Friday 24 July 2009**. Schools can arrange to collect the complete set of Bursary forms on Friday 31 July 2009. · In line with feedback from Schools, it has been decided that Schools will be allowed to review early applications received by 29 May with view of notifying the Admissions Office of candidates that they would like to recommend for a Bursary (subject to achieving a 2.1), with a formal offer to follow from the Admissions Office once graduation results are known. (In line with University policy, Bursary offer letters must be issued by the Admissions Office and not Schools.) · Schools are asked to notify me of their *final* decisions by completing the departmental decision section on the bursary application form by **Friday 14 August 2009. **Each School is recommended to nominate a MINIMUM of 5 reserves in case first choice candidates decide not to accept the bursary or do not meet the terms of their offer letter/bursary.
